The development of safe and efficacious vaccines against COVID-19 kept all scientists busy in the last two years. We also know that BioNTech scientists, who were already working on the mechanism of action of mRNA, immediately had the idea to use their know-how for the fast development of the first vaccine against COVID-19.  This vaccine was developed at high speed and in fact was approved for use in humans in less than one year after the availability of the complete sequence of the viral genome.
