Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the health care industry with its transformative potential to enhance patient care, boost medical professional satisfaction, and accelerate research in medical device development and drug discovery. AI can also drive operational efficiency by enabling personalized treatments and streamlining healthcare processes.

The FDA recognizes the importance of appropriately integrating AI into the healthcare ecosystem to harness its benefits while mitigating risks and challenges. Efforts are underway across various medical product centers, as detailed in the paper “Artificial Intelligence & Medical Products: How CBER, CDER, CDRH, and OCP are Working Together,” to support the development and use of AI.

The Digital Health Center of Excellence (DHCoE) aims to promote responsible AI innovations in healthcare, ensuring these technologies are safe and effective when used as medical devices. The DHCoE also seeks to foster collaboration and alignment within the healthcare ecosystem to optimize the integration of AI in health care.1
